Here’s how to protect your dogs (and yourself) from ticks!
Ticks are sneaky and like to ambush us. They crawl up on low shrubs or grass, usually 18 to 24 inches off the ground and basically “hang out” waiting for us or our dog to brush by them. They don’t climb up into trees–that’s an old myth. These hardy little parasites can live well over a year without feeding.
Another way we can pick them up is in our own yards, especially in rural areas, when wildlife, mainly raccoons, skunks or opossums wander through our neighborhoods.
If you’re camping, be sure to inspect your own clothing and your animals very closely! They are very small (until they’ve had a meal)!
The best prevention in our yards and property is to keep brush and weeds to a minimum. And call us for a good spray service! We can help you identify trouble areas in your landscape and lay down a chemical barrier to prevent new hatching of eggs.
